 Deep Sea Fishing Ft.Lauderdale on Happy Day Today
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
In Sunny Ft. Lauderdale, John Bishop and his wife Patricia and their family from Texas decided to go deep sea fishing on the charter boat the Happy Day Today. The weather they left in Texas was grey and rainy and to their surprise the skies in Ft. Lauderdale were sunny and bright, a southeast breeze, 5-8 mph, with sea conditions running 2-3 ft.
We started off trolling with 2 plainers down, one with a 3 1/2 blue reflector drome spoon and the other plainer had a blue and white sea witch with a bonita strip, which hooked up King Fishes and Bonitas in a depth of water of 80-120 ft. off the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale.
After putting 1 1/2-2 hours of trolling and hooking up fish, Mr. Bishop decided to target a sailfish so we put two kites up with goggle eyes and mullets for bait in 160 ft. of water, which puts us off the third reef in Ft. Lauderdale. Not too long with kites flying, a Barracuda appeared and chased one of the mullets from the kite and wound up being hooked up and brought to the boat.
While we were fighting the one Barracuda, a sailfish with dorsal out of the water circled the bait on the left kite. He must have had a full belly because he was not interested in eating the bait and kept migrating to the south of Ft. Lauderdale.
Our next bite was a Mahi Mahi, which was hooked by Johns daughter, Ashley. After a 15 minute battle, Ashley brought a nice 15 lb. Mahi Mahi to the boat and Mitch the mate gaffed the fish. All Ashley kept saying was What a great fish to eat, and Mitch accommodated by cleaning and filleting the fish for them to take home.
We continued to hook up more Bonitas and King Fish from the kites for the rest of the charter.
We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
