 At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports flounder fishing has been hot with the majority of throwbacks coming from the Crossovers, E buoy, and D buoy. The most success is coming from in and around the reef sites. The Lower Middle is also producing a lot of nice fish. Some triggerfish have been coming in from the reef sites and their leading fish in the tournament was caught at G Buoy. Current 2nd place fish was also caught at G Buoy and current 3rd place was caught at F Buoy. Their weekly prize drawing winner was Chris “Itchy” Huk. Last week’s random drawing winner was Dave Mendenhall. 1st place finisher receives 1000.00, 2nd place receives 500.00, and 3rd receives 250.00. Prizes will be awarded for 1st-14th place finishers.
Capt. Bob Sanderson of Some Guy, fishing with his regular crew, came in with a total of 8 flats from Site #6 and Site #7. Paul Troyer weighed in a 3.48 lb flat, the remaining 7 keepers were between 18 ¾-21 ¼”. Capt. Art Coleman III, Art III, and Lester Gassert fished the bay for a short time on Sunday morning before heading home with Lester weighing in a 5.97 lb flat from F Buoy. Shannon Babcock and her dad Mike, fished the Coral Beds Saturday evening and on Sunday morning Shannon weighed in a
17.7 lb drum. Rick Aument fished the Coral Beds one final time Sunday night for black drum and was not disappointed, they boat had a total of 3 between 30-40 lbs., releasing them all and reporting only one dogfish. Kathy Kunkle weighed in a citation 8.36 lb flounder with a 24” girth and 31” long caught while drifting between Site #6 and the Mohawk. On Monday, Mike and Brian Logue fished near G Buoy reporting 7 throwback flats with Mike coming ashore with a 3.44 lb flat. Jim Comegys was fishing between G and B Buoy in 90’ water and brought in 1 flat. Capt. Joe Huk and sons, Zak and Itchy, fished Site #7, F Buoy, and the Mohawk on Monday. Zak and Itchy each boated a flat, having “outfished the ol’ man”. Eddie Kibler and Tucker Lankford had 5 keepers and reported 10-12 throwbacks from Site #6. Capt Bill Stoe and Craig Crockett were fishing near D Buoy and Site #7; had 2 in the box and reporting 3 throwbacks, all of which were 1/8” shy of the 18 ½” minimum. On Friday, the 12th, Brady Mendenhall and friend Alec Hardesty fished with dad, Capt. Duane Mendenhall and Mary. Brady talked his dad into going out to the 14’ Light where Brady boated their lone keeper; Alec caught 1 throwback. Jody Novack and Ed Johnson aboard the Dog Catcher fished the Mohawk side of the Lower Middle Shoal coming in with 1 keeper flat and reporting no action at the Crossovers. Capt. Bill Haines and Dick Degnats were fishing in the vicinity of G Buoy, reporting 15 total with 7 keeper flats ranging 19-22”. Dick said the day was the best he’s had in a long time; with calm seas and a good bite. Stanley Roslevege reported lots of action at E Buoy with no keepers. Troy Talley also had a keeper flat on Friday. On Saturday, the Knot Talkin’ crew, Art Coleman IV, Art III, and Troy were joined by Robby Grillo. The group had a great day on the bay with Robby weighing in a 6.38 lb flat and Art III weighing in a 6.18 lb, of which Robby and Art III are currently holding 1st and 2nd place in their flounder tournament. Troy had 2 20” keepers, Robby had 4 keepers, Art IV had 2 and Art III had 3 for a total of 11 keepers in the box. John Cannon had 2 keepers from Site #6 and G Buoy, reporting 8 or 9 throwbacks, 2 were real close. Joe and Penny Lintner reported 3 keepers while fishing the Anchorage area. Capt. Joe Bahsteter and Nick Doris fished the top of the Brown Shoal at ebb tide coming in with 2 keepers and reporting 9 throwbacks. Kenneth Stamm, daughter Wanda Bowman and son-in-law Capt. Duane Bowman had 4 keepers from Site #6 with 5 throwbacks while fishing aboard The Fuss. Capt. Bob Sanderson of Some Guy spent the day fishing with Toby Miller, Jerry Troyer, and Henry Miller with the boat bringing in a total of 13 keepers from Site #6 and Site #7. Henry Miller weighed in a 4.62 lb flat which currently places him in 4th on their tournament board. Rob Attix, Irvin Miller, and Stormin’ Norman came in with 3 keepers. Nick Szep, Jim Scott Sr., Jim Scott Jr., and Tyler Scott were fishing Reef Site #7 and came ashore with an empty box. Stan Roslevege, Dan Rusnock, Peter and John Disabella fished #14 and #15 Buoy, reporting shorts with one keeper and reporting a 10” throwback sea bass from North of Brandywine in 13’ of water.
Chances are the current prize winning fish won’t hold up until September 22nd but participants are encouraged to weigh in their catches which will increase their odds for being a monthly winner. Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle will hold its Take the Family Fishing Day Pig Roast/BBQ on July 11th from 11a-2p for all tournament participants and their families. Tournament ends on Sep 22nd at 6p.
