Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle Weekly 090509

At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports this has to be one of the best flounder fishing summers he can remember for a long time. Monday-Thursday, most anglers were unable to get out due to the heavy NE winds. All that changed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; the flounder coming in were all in the 3-8 lb range. The flounder are nice and thick and very aggressive. Their fight to save a life flounder tournament standings have not changed. There are 2 weeks remaining in the tournament and the odds of beating the current standings are excellent. Get out and take advantage of the excellent flounder bite and put yourself on the board! Bruce and George Summers, fishing aboard their vessel, Summer’s Time, came in after fishing Site #6 with 3 fat flounder, 24, 21, and 18 ½” along with some nice keeper sea bass and reporting ½ dozen throwback flounder. Capt. Joe and Itchy Huk, fishing with Cody Scott caught a total of 12 flounder with 4 keepers up to 5.27 lbs while making long drifts fishing in and around Site #6. Capt. Joe is also a contender in the Fisherman’s Dream Boat Challenge. His son, Itchy is also currently holding onto 9th place in their annual flounder tournament. Capt. Tom Bowden, an excellent flounder fisherman, came in light with only 2 keeper fluke, one at 23” and one at 18 ½”, and releasing 10 shorts from Site #6 and Site #7. 14 year old Micah topped his elders by being the high hook by boating a 23” flattie and two 20” along with 6 blues, using squid and minnow. Fishing F Buoy on the incoming tide aboard the Shirley J, using DE Bay sandwich, Joe Brandel had 6 throwbacks while Chris Mench hooked and boated a nice fat citation fluke weighing 7.23 lbs with a length of 28 ¼”. The trio also boated some small sharks and 1 blue. Capt. Brad Watts, fising from his vessel, Hook Um, had 2 keeper flounder and 7 throwbacks while fishing in 48’ water W of F Buoy. Capt. Chris Brian Trumbull, on his last 2 trips on the bay, reported catching in excess of 50 flounder with only 6 keepers, 3 of which were in the 4-6 lb range. He had 44 total the previous day with 5 keepers and ran into a school of blues, keeping 5 and hooking into approximately 20 skate and sand shark. Toby Miller, who is currently in 2nd place in their tournament, fishing with Capt Bob Sandeson, Jerry and Paul Troyer, claiming to have a slow day, caught a total of 7 fat flats up to 23 ¼” and 3 trigger fish from Site #7. Before coming ashore they stopped at the Beach Ball, catching 2 trout up to 13 ½ “. Shannon Marshall came in with a nice thick flounder weighing 6.2 lbs caught at Site #5. Fishing in and around the Beach Ball he also came ashore with 2 blues and 1 keeper sea bass out of 12. Capt. Joe Krupa, who didn’t do so well his last 4 bay trips, asked Tom for a few pointers and came ashore with 2 keeper flounder and reporting 2 throwbacks; good job! Richard and Rob Ulmer came in Sunday morning with 2 nice stripers, one at 39 ½” and one at 30” while drifting eel. They also had 5 beautiful trout, 24-26” while using spot at Brandywine. The Wahoo Crew came in with a 20” flat and reporting 6 throwback flats with a mix of blowfish and 40 sea bass with only one keeper.
Tom wishes to remind everyone that striper and tog season is just around the corner; gear up and be prepared and the flounder are not only fat but aggressive and plentiful.
If you’re thinking of winterizing your vessel, their early bird special will not be matched, Find your best price and they will beat it by 10%.
