Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Drift Sport Fishing

Ft. Lauderdale Deep Sea Drift Sport Fishing

The weather is beautiful again. No more huge waves and rough seas. We've got a nice little seabreeze ouffshore with just enough wind in it to get our kites up. Few sailfish around this week, some being caught on the troll, while most have been caught kite fishing. 100-200' along the blue water edge has been the most productive. Some big dolphin around here and there also. I've caught several single dolphin over 20lbs. this week so far. No big hammerheads so far, but some nice silky sharks started showing up these past few days. I've caught 2 and seen a few others on my other boats. I tried one of my snowy grouper deep drop missions on Christmas Eve. I caught quite a few vermillion snappers but only 2 little snowy groupers that I threw back because they were tiny. The charter boats have been catching some big amberjacks while shipwreck fishing. There is a lot of pressure on the fish this week since the weather is nice and there are so many boats out there. I think fishing may be a bit tougher than normal for this week due to all the boat traffic, but by early January it'll be back to normal. Expect some big Swordfish to start biting. There aren't the summer numbers of them out there but there are some really big ones. You'll see us catch a 200+ pounder in the weeks to come.

The drift boat has been catching mostly king mackrel on the reef. 80-140' has been best for them on the dead sardines. The drift boat has been trying some kite fishing this week like the old Another No. 1 Deal used to do and they've had some good luck with it so far. A couple really big dolphin that made the day, and a couple of sails so far. Kitefishing may become a normal tactic for us on that boat soon. I've got the crew getting everything dialed in for some kite fishing/live baiting. The night trip has been getting some pretty nice mutton snappers on their yellowtail trip. They have still been getting the yellowtails but a few nice muttons or a cobia here and there as well.

Good luck to everyone fishing this week. I hope to see ya out there on the water. Until next week...
