January Fishing Report/February Fishing Forecast
Fishing over the month of January was a little more diffucult than normal for the Tampa Bay area because of the fluctuating weather patterns we were having, but now that the weather has stabilized the fishing is only goin to get better.
Over the last week I have been targeting trout mostly with some steady action for my clients. Most of the fish we have been catching have been ranging from 15 to 18 inches with the occasional fish in the 20's. DOA shrimp under a cajun thunder popping cork have been the preferred method.
Also I have been using cut ladyfish on the bottom around mangrove edges and oyster bars targeting redfish. They havent been huge fish, but the amount has made up for it. It hasnt been uncommon to catch 15 to 20 in a couple of hours.
As for the upcoming month of February, the fishing should heat up as the weather begins to warm. Shrimp fished along mangrove shorelines should produce some solid snook and redfish catches, while the trout are still goin to be #1 on the grassflats.
Remember that with the cooler weather the fish push farther up into the backcountry, so head back into the groves for your fishing adventures.
Good luck and Tight lines....!! |
