 January 3, 2010
Happy New Year! That's right its the first report for the month of January 2010. The weather on the Space Coast has dropped over the past week with freezing temps just about every night. The sudden change in weather has changed the fishing as well. The FWC is asking local Guides and Anglers to report fish kills. The big concern is the snook. With the water temps in the low 50's these fish take the brunt of these sudden cold fronts. Along with these cold front comes strong winds out of the north making sight fishing hard on some days. The redfish and black drum still roam the shallow flats in search of small shrimp and crabs. Large schools of both redfish and black drum can be found through out the day on the shallow flats. A well placed shrimp or crab imitation in front of the schools and worked slow is a sure hook up. Until the temps starts to rise again, its best to start the day kind of late, this allows the flats to heat, and the fish get more active. The trout fishing is picking back up again in shallow water. The average fish is in the 4-5 pound range, with a couple in the 6-8 pound range. A soft plastic fished slow through the grass and potholes to the key for that next Gator trout. We have some dates remaining for January. Give us a call call now to reserve a date 321 - 474 9692. We look forward to fishing with you this year. |
