Tarpon on the Miami beaches

I am fishing with Ed and Carlos long time friends in Whitewater Bay today, they are out to bend rods and enjoy the day. These guys have been fishing together for 30 years and have seen both good and bad changes in the Everglades. I rigged popping cork rigs on their rods only because the spots I fish have have cover and and jigs get caught up. It didn't take long and Carlos had the first Redfish, he caught 3 before Ed had his first. We did this most of the day with plenty of Trout, Snappers, Jacks, Ladyfish, Mackerels mixed in. We did have Tarpon all around the boat but they were interested in fighting something that big. I ran to the Gulf of Mexico looking for something different but we caught more Redfish which they didn't mind. Ed and Carlos caught allot of fish, as I was running back I noticed both had dozed off. This is always my goal to wear the customer out!

I am with Babb and his dad Glen for Thanksgiving day, I have fished with Babb before and he wanted something special for his dad. He said lots of fish Jimbo no matter what they are, i said no problem!

I ran to the backcountry again because Babb likes Tarpon. The first spot had Ladyfish, Jack, Trout and something big followed his "Twitch n rap" which was possibly a big Snook. We sat there casting and watching the Tarpon blow up and roll a few hundreds yards away until I couldn't take it anymore. We went and worked the area and Babb hooked a monster of a Tarpon and light spinning tackle. The Tarpon ate made a big swirl and then took off and made 2 jumps before throwing the lure. Babb was pretty pumped up! They kept casting but the Tarpon didn't want to play, we moved on and caught a bunch of nice Redfish, Snappers and a ton of Ladyfish that were mixed in everywhere we went. It was about 1030 when I went to crank up and had a problem. The motor would not go over 1200 rpm's which only moved us at 7 mph. They had to be back by 1 PM so we started working our way back. I told Babb I had some Tarpon/Snook spots in Coot Bay that we could hit on the way in. This was a good choice we caught a few Tarpon /Snook and Babb got his Backcountry Slam. Glen had Tarpon Reds and Trout as well.

The Tarpon are on Miami Beach on the West coast and in the back country really thick, if you looking to tangle with some king size poons give me a call at 305 333 8149
