Kona Marlin fishing is best in years right now! Best winter fishing I have ever seen in Kona!
The Kona deep sea fishing continues to be excellent for both Blue Marlin and Mahi Mahi. Today, December 1, Bob Hadley one of my previous customers booked HighNoon for a full day charter. He caught a 400 lb Marlin last year with me and wanted to give it a try again. Bob is one lucky guy....we hooked up about 9am with a Blue Marlin and fought it for over two hours before bringing it to the boat and releasing this nice 700 lb Blue. Bob said "take me back, I'm totally exhausted". It was an hour troll back to the harbor, so naturally I put out a few lures. We got absolutely slammed on the short corner lure and this fish almost spooled us on it's initial run. This fish looked even bigger than that 700 lb fish we had just released! Unfortunately, it came off. Well, unfortunate may be the wrong word....Bob said he was "relieved". Yesterday, Tim and Sandra Stone from Portland, Oregon chartered Highnoon for their first Kona Fishing charter. We landed them two nice Mahi Mahi which I filet up for their condo meals. The day before, Derrick Ray from the San Diego area chartered us for a marlin fishing charter. His efforts were rewarded with a 183 lb Blue Marlin which hit a live skipjack tuna. And the day before that, Bryan and Megan Pearl from New Jersey chartered HighNoon for a full day charter. Bryan wanted to be out on the water at first light, so we left in the dark at 6 am. At 6:15 while setting our lines at first light, a nice 350 lb. Blue Marlin came up on the stinger lure just as I was trying to put it in the perfect position. It missed the lure the first time...but when it came back, I dropped it back for about a second before setting full drag. Megan jumped in the fighting chair and did a great job of bringing this fish to the boat for release. Funny, during the fight, she saw the Marlin jump near the boat and said in an incredulous voice " Is that really my fish???". Yes, Megan it was...and a lifetime memory for you and Bryan. As for the fishing conditions, the Kona fishing conditions have been wonderful. Warm, clear and calm water conditons. Also our weather has been wonderful....air temps at 85 and the water temperature is a perfect 81 degrees...great for fishing and snorkeling.
