 December 1, 2009 UPDATE
The Kona deep sea fishing continues to be good this winter for Blue Marlin and Mahi Mahi...and even some nice Wahoo have been caught this past week. Fishing Kona Hawaii on our calm waters for Blue Marlin and other big game fish is a great way to spend the day in Kona, Hawaii. Seeing whales, dolphins and the beautiful Kona Coast is a bonus. This week we saw our first humpback whales while fishing for Blue Marlin.
This past week, we landed a nice 150 lb Blue Marlin for Nick Wininger, from Omaha, Nebraska after a 39 minute fight (See photo below). It was Nicks first time out Kona deep sea fishing and he hit the jackpot with a great fish. A few days before that we tagged and released another Blue Marlin estimated at 250 lbs. Greg Floyd from Bend, Oregon out on his first Kona fishing charter landed a nice 20 lb Wahoo which went on his grill for the rest of the week. Earlier this month, we took Fred and Shan Grundman from Eureka, California out on a full day charter and they landed a huge 461 lb. Blue Marlin which was our largest marlin caught so far this month. The Kona fishing should only improve during December and January as more Blue Marlin move in and striped marlin and Spearfish begin to move into the waters off Kona Hawaii. December and January are very busy, so reserve your own Kona fishing charter early.
