We were hit with a bad cold front about a week ago. That storm only produced about an inch of rain, which wasn't enough to muddy up anything (which is good). Right after that storm passed there was about three or four nights straight where the lows were in the 20's. I'm sure at that point all the fish (stripers, largemouth, and baitfish) were all in a state of shock. NOBODY, was on the water those few days, but I'm sure it would have been tough out there. Thursday night some cloud cover and light showers came in and it stayed relatively warm, 40's. My guide trip on Friday got canceled due to the weather, but at around 10am a buddy of mine called and convinced me to get out to the Delta and check things out. The weather looked absolutely perfect, but I still had some doubts because of the freezing temps from a few days before. We only had 3 hours on the water, but we caught six (3-5lb) stripers. All on 3/8 ounce white hair jigs. I threw top water about 75% of the time, hoping to catch a big one, but only had a couple swirls behind the bait. Slowing down was the key. Wish I threw a rip bait around a bit. Definitely think the baitfish are trying to get out of the current.
