Saginaw Bay, Au Gres, 6/24/09 |
Limit catches are the rule at Au Gres. Even in the hot, sunny, calm conditions we’ve been having, the bite has still been on fire. We took about 10 keepers per hour this morning. The water temp has shot up to 75 degrees. I’m marking more baitfish now than ever before this year. The fish are fat and happy, but still biting well. We’ve been catching a perfect mix of small, medium and large size fish on most trips. Moonshine Walleye Spoons fished behind Jet Divers and Church Tackles Walleye Boards have been deadly medicine on the Bay’s walleyes. Today we caught lots of fish on Shell Bell, Glow Purple Nose and Pink Eye patterns. I’ve picked up the pace on my trolling speeds with the warming waters an am now running at about 2.0 mph. The fish are all being caught tight to the bottom, which is right where I’m marking tons of big fish and bait fish. I also noticed that a bunch of perch just moved into the area between the hump and the Au Gres jetties about .5 to 1.0 miles SE from the channel marker buoys. Nobody has been fishing for them, but I’m certain that they are perch because they always move into the area when the water temp hits the 70s.
