South Florida Peacock Bass |
Well, Sumertime is here and that means awesome peacock bass
fishing for those of us here in South Florida. The Miami canals have been the
spot of choice for us and are producing anywhere from 15-40 peacocks up to about
7 pounds in a full day of fishing. Live bait is premium when fishing for this
species. Free line a small live shiner out behind the boat 50 or 60 feet using a
small bb weight and a size 2 live bait hook. You can also use Kahle hooks if you
wish. Just make sure that the bait is getting down deep. However, one the day
warms up and the sun gets higher in the sky the fish become visible on the
shallow shoreline. Our clients that bring their polarized sunglasses have had
some exciting afternoons recently sight fishing for them; pitching red
rattletraps and bucktail jigs into their beds. It is so cool to actually see the
fish inhale your bait and then peel your drag once you set the hook!
Visit us on the web at the address above or give us a call at (877) FLA-PKOK and
lets go fishing!
Tight Lines,
Capt. Steve
