Lake Conroe Fishing Report - Lake Conditions July 21 2007. Lots of showers this week, especialy in the afternoons has kept temperature down and fishing great! The Lake is just over pool at 201.24 and the water is stained with all the run off. The surface temperature on main lake is still in the 80’s. The rain and run off is keeping the surface temperature down. The traffic on the Lake has been very slim, making fishing the main Lake very easy. The normal schedule for trips has been disrupted somewhat, leaving later and staying longer due to rain showers; but, all the guides are catching real nice fish. The good news is that it is COOL out on the lake, making fishing very comfortable for this time of the year.

Lake Conroe Fishing Report - Black Bass
Bass fishing has been GREAT!. There have been lots of fish in the shallow water with the cooling temperatures from the run-off from all the rain. Hydrilla off points has been a real hot tip. Those fishing are all catching some real solid fish. The Thursday Night Tournament hosted by Billy Mills & Wayne Whitehead at April Plaza Marina had 33 fish weigh-in this week. ( 07/19/07.) This tournament has been a favorite of many fishermen for over 18 years. $5 is held out from each team entry fee to be used for restocking bass in Lake Conroe. All other money is paid back to the fishermen. Call 936-588-1118 for more info and talk to Billy or Wayne. First Place and Big Bass this week went to the Boe and Jason Harrell team weighing in 3 fish with a total weight of 15.35 lbs. Their Big Bass was 6.39 lbs. Second Place went to the Mike Mueller and Julian Clepper team with 4 fish that weighed 11.46 lbs. Carolina rigged watermelon red and green worms and deep diving crankbaits were the bait of choice. Plum is always a good worm on Conroe. Shallow early in 5 to 8 feet of water, moving to deeper water latter in the day has been the best bet. Deep water structure 18 - 22 feet on drop off’s has been good latter in the day. Crank baits around the dock areas and off the rocks have also produced some real nice fish. Running a Buzzbait over submerged hydrill is still getting some nice fish early and late.

Lake Conroe Fishing Report - White Bass and Hybrid/Striped Bass
The hybrids and white bass have been much more scattered again this week. Main Lake points and the edge of the flats has been producing some white bass. Trolling inline spinner baits behind a JetDiver and PetSpoons has been fair for white bass. With the release of water, there are more and more hybrids moving to the humps along the river channel in 19 to 23 feet of water. The Hybrids have been tough this week. The real hot tip on the hybrids is to keep moving until you find them. If you are NOT picking up fish on your electronics, there is no need to stop. The bigger concentrations of fish have been near the river channel where the water is running. The continued release of water keeps the fish in some pretty strange patters for both the white bass and the hybrids.

Lake Conroe Fishing Report - Catfish
Catfish fishing has been GREAT! The guides have had trips every day this week and all have caught real nice catfish. The fish are up in the heads of all the creeks where the run-off is bring in a constant supply of food. The guides out of Anchorage Marina have fished this week between thunderstorms and were able to catch lots of catfish in baited holes 10 to 15 feet deep near areas they had fished before in the shallows. If you have that favorite bulkhead, drain pipe, stump patch, grass in rocks that you have been fishing, just back off a little and try it in a little deeper water. This week lots of blue cats in the 10 to 25 lb class have been caught by jugline fishermen fishing at the head of most creeks. The catfish move to the running water looking for food. Cut shad, liver and shrimp have all been great baits this week. Night fishing continues to be good with several four party trips getting their limits. The 1097 Bridge continues to produce good catches of catfhish using Magic Bait “Premo”, liver, shrimp dipped in cheese bait, cheese bait and other stink baits. Don’t forget to use chum. Range cubes and soured deer corn or chicken stratch make great chum.

Lake Conroe Fishing Report - Bream & Crappie
Bream fishing has been spectacular. Some of the best fishing has been along the rocks at the dam and the 1097 Bridge. Huge bream and so delightful in the frying pan. Several of the Anchorage Marina guides are now taking bream trips where they fish for bream the entire time. If you are a bream fisherman, this is the time to fish. Light tackle provides a action packed adventure when bream fishing. A real good way to chum for bream is put a couple of hands full of range cubes in a fish basket and tie it off your boat. Let it down 7 or 8 feet and then shake it every once in awhile. The bream will come. Nightcrawlers or crickets are always a good bait. Glo Worms are the favorite of some of the guides. Crappie fishing has been fair on the brush piles in 17 - 18 feet of water using white/chartreuse jigs and minnows for bait. The crappie are real sensitive about the depth of water and the feeding times. You might want to check the “Fishing Times” to know when the best bite is going to be in progress.

Keep A Tight Line & Enjoy!
