Charleston, SC – A new director, a new venue, new dates and new plans have combined to make a bright new future for the 6th Annual SC In-Water Boat Show, the largest regional in-water show between Annapolis and West Palm Beach.

The South Carolina Marine Association, which produces the show, has changed the dates to April 27-30, 2006, selected a new location at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina, and contracted with Deidre Menefee to manage the show.

Menefee is well known in the state for her management of several of the Governor’s Cup Billfishing tournaments, including the largest, also held at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. “With her knowledge of the boating community, her marketing skills, and her organizational talents, I think we have made a good choice to bring our show to the next level,” said SCMA President Rick Griffin, owner of the Downtown Marina, Beaufort, SC. “We have every confidence that Deidre will increase our exhibitor and attendance numbers.”

The new location will provide an excellent site for the show to continue to grow. “We were getting constricted by our dock space at Brittlebank Park,” explained Suzi DuRant, SCMA Executive Director. “We now have the entire northern-most dock to use where we can add our own docks to create more slips. We’ll also have an entirely new landside layout on high ground and close to the parking area. It’s a great site with all of Charleston Harbor, the new Arthur Ravenel Bridge and the historic USS Yorktown as a back drop.”

Both the location and the dates were changed at the request of the exhibitors. “The response has been enthusiastic,” said Menefee. “We’ve already had several dealers say they will double their exhibit space this spring. And we’re working with other marine businesses who have contacted SCMA about sponsorships.”

The SC In-Water Boat Show has traditionally seen over 100 boats in the water, 120 exhibitors on land with everything from boat accessories to clothing to artwork to teak deck furniture, and up to 10,000 attendees. A new website is in the development stage at www.scinwaterboatshow.com but information is also available either 843-889-9067 or 843-345-0369.

The SC Marine Association serves as the voice of the state’s recreational marine industry, providing legislative and regulatory guidance as well as educational and promotional benefits for its membership.
