While people have been relishing delicious sea food for centuries, it is only in the recent past that studies have brought out the benefits of eating fish. Demand for fish has surged as they are highly nutritive and inexpensive. Fish can be cooked to suit different tastes that will satisfy the most demanding person on earth.

 

Most
fish are relatively low in cholesterol and saturated fats,
which makes it much healthier than beef. Some studies have
recently shown that certain types of fish can actually help
to lower cholesterol.

 

Fish is lower in calories than the same portion size of beef, and it's very high in protein. Those practicing healthy eating are working toward reducing their calories and maintaining nutritional values. Fish is considered a perfect food with its high protein, and low calorie ratio.
Few foods can make that claim. Remember not to slather tartar sauce or other high calorie and fat condiments onto your fish. Instead, use herbs and healthy marinades.

Fish is also rich in other nutritional requirements such as potassium, B-complex vitamins, selenium, iron, and many other trace minerals required by the body. Some varieties of fatty fish are rich in vitamin A and D. Since fish is low on sodium, it is advised as a healthy diet. Many doctors and nutritionist advise people to include a lot of fish in their diet owing to their nutritional value. To err on the safe side, do not consume the breaded, over- processed fish sticks that you see in the markets.

With all these benefits, you may be wondering if fish is high in cholesterol, as many other types of meat are. Most fish are relatively low in cholesterol and saturated fats, which makes it much healthier than beef. Some studies have recently shown that certain types of fish can actually help to lower cholesterol.

Fish varieties like the salmon and trout are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are one of the essential fatty acids that the body is in great need of. It is also found in flax seed oil. Many people take a supplement of the Omega-3 fatty acids to keep themselves well nourished. Supplements can be replaced with these types of fish which are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids to get your nutritional supply from a natural source.

Omega-3 has been shown to be beneficial for a variety of health reasons. Some of these include high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, hardening of the arteries, arthritis, and even hair loss. There are many studies being done about the many positive effects of omega-3 fatty acids. Just one more reason to incorporate fish into your diet.

Fish is inexpensive and is a great source of nutrition, at an affordable cost compared to the high cost you will pay for the supplements. Some fish like the salmon and halibut are a bit costly but most fish varieties come at an affordable cost. Fish can be prepared very deliciously
which will be enjoyed by everyone in the family including the younger ones.

Fish is definitely a positive choice to make in your menu plans, especially if you're looking for ways to eat healthier foods. One thing to remember though, avoid butter and cream sauces that will increase the calorie count. Fish is easy to fix and your whole family will welcome the fish meals you start serving them.
